iPhone 3GS has an ECID. It stands for Exclusive Chip ID. When iTunes starts the 3GS restore process, it contacts Apple servers to generate signatures just for your device. ECID is like a security layer blocking jaibreak. So 3GS owners need to be extra cautious and for the time being not dare update to 3.1 firmware.
