My point was that the artist in question should be rated on the merit of their work, not their sexuality.  I recognize that it is a big deal for him to come out (so to speak), and is, as you say, a "game-changer", but in my mind it all comes back to whether or not the art(ist) is good.

Agreed on both counts.  Got into a fight with an ex gf in regards to my then favorite boxers, I won because I was able to convince her they worked on job interviews for me as well.

I sought out Cab Calloway and John Lee Hooker simply because of this movie.  And a few other folk as well.  Comedy aside it was a great introduction to a lot of things.
