Is it just me or is history repeating?

what is so inefficient about RWD? BMW use it on all their products (ignoring the 4x4 ones, which are based on RWD platforms in any case) and thanks to their EfficientDynamics program their cars have some of the lowest CO2 outputs and best fuel economy in their respective classes. GM just needs to work a little harder

@layabout: presumably that's what the production version will look like

@layabout: I found another press release, from 2004, which says:

Is it legal to drive a 205 in Texas? Is it legal to charge that much for novelty value? Given the age of the Diesel technology in the XRD even running on biodiesel it would be a stretch to think of it as environmentally freindly

@layabout: from the Toyota press site:

WOW these cars are cheap, in the UK the Yaris ranges from $17,695 for the basic 1.0 3dr to $25,118 for the 5dr T Sport 1.4 (we don't get the sedan). Ours are made in northern France, whereabouts are yours manufactured?

It's like the 70s all over again! Now you guys just need to elect a Democtratic president…

Has to be the DeTomaso

A little 'off thread' but a friend of mine's family were involved in an accident with Boney M's tour bus in the 70s when he was a kid. I've always been jealous

Come on people, a gull-wing amphibian? Where are your hearts?

@abgwin: You're right of course, the original Golf was such a breakthrough they've not dared to change the formula since. The only Golf I've ever owned was a Mk II GTi (bought second-hand) which was a great car. But every Golf I've driven since I left me cold

@abgwin: In the 30+ year history of the Golf have they EVER taken a risk with it? Answer: no, each successive generation has been a careful evolution of the last. Anyway aren't you guys going to get the "NCS" (New Compact Sedan, geddit) to replace the current gen Jetta which is be be made at their new Tennessee

I feel a disturbance in the force

this story broke weeks ago, where you guys been?

strangely there are still loads of people in the UK who feel warmly toward the TF, who knows, they may even sell the "limited" edition of 500

@akier: sure is, I saw an Alfa 75 (the Euro version of the Milano) abandoned in a ferry car park on Greek Island recently, covered in dust and shit. So wanted to liberate it. Can't help but wonder what it would look like without all that ugly plastic trim

An armour-plated Holden Kingswood, maybe with half-tracks instead of rear wheels, and a little gun-turret

Can't see sense in the Tata deal, now they own Land Rover why would they want to sell a competitor to their own brand? I know they only sell a hand-full of Land Rovers in India but if they want to develop a bit of 4X4 business there surely they'd start with their own make first? Presumably the Fiat tie-up would be to
