true, but earlier today another article here in Jalopnik shows that even Mitsubishi dealers are brave enough to add markups to their cars, think about the audacity of adding markups to a Mirage :-)

the thing is the amount of people who absolutely have to buy a car is still very very large.

How are we supposed to pronounce Esntial?

old BMW 8 series - not too expensive to buy, but such a time bomb of maintenance that scares me away.

there is no discount at all. All Kia dealers want MSRP+ for Stingers.

They never carried too much stock anyway of Stingers. And nowadays with all the craziness the dealers around here are not a bit interested in selling it for a fair price.

the Stinger manages to be better than the G70 on interior space. but yeah, the Genesis separated dearlership treats you much better.

As long as they dont start making it more difficult to actually buy the car myself, there is really nothing “wrong” with what they are doing.

because of the surge in price of used cars. Pretty much any 18-19 leased vehicle right now is selling for more than the residual value in the contract.

Tom, a couple years ago I wanted to buy my end of lease Focus but the dealer wanted to charge me a $500 fee for “selling me an used car” according to them. Is this allowed? Shouldnt the buyout be specifically the amount in the contract + taxes and registration?

I bought an Arteon SEL Premium R-line fully loaded this month. 10K off the MSRP.

Tom, why are your previous articles not being listed on the “car buying” menu anymore?

And the platinum trim is about 37K, so imagine someone paying 37K MSRP for a Nissan Rogue

That’s how GTA works, now you dont even need to paint the car anymore.

I am at the same end-of-lease situation with my Leaf. Carvana has offered me 7k over the payoff price, but they couldnt buy it because of this policy.

Datsun 300ZX, which is more expensive than I thought it would be

I bought a sedan this week, 2020 MY Arteon, for 10k off MSRP. which made it a good value deal, specially compared to the way competition is doing business now.

I think it is the opposite, since I have to stop and charge the EV anyways, I might as well grab something to drink or eat.

My lease ends in October and if things continue I will definitely buy-out. My buying price is 12K, and the 2018 Leaf around Atlanta are being sold for >18K.

More than 56 percent of new vehicles financed in the first three months of 2021 were SUVs, and another 17 percent were pickup trucks”
