That’s a good point. I was lucky and got a plate before the lottery thing started, but fuel costs are rising. When I first moved here with my family I remember it cost about 12$ to fill up my dads Honda Accord in Beijing, just last week I filled up my car and I spent about 70$ for just over 60L of premium gas. With…
I wish I could show this to everyone around where I live. I have one roundabout to go through going to and from work. It used to be the highlight of my day before there were so many cars in my area and now it makes me upset. Where do I begin? How about the daily ritual of drivers enter the roundabout, go to the far…
The worst decision? Thats a hard one, he did have some interesting taste in cars... He went from a Karman Ghia to a couple of Beetles then when I was born we had an 82 5 speed Subaru GL and just kept going down the Japanese route with an 85 Toyota van and then a 5 speed 91 Accord. Now my mom drives the stereotypical…
I’ve lived in Asia most of my life. For me boarding a plane and flying for 12 hours is routine, but I can’t imagine 18+ hours unless they improve seat comfort. Before I was full grown the seats weren't a concern, but now I am over 6ft and well into my 30s so I am more and more aware of the leg room and seat…
Happy to hear that. Can’t wait to read your report to get your take on the trip. It’s interesting to read about others reactions to life in China!
I’ve been living in Beijing most of my adult life, so I would reccomend skipping Shanghai and going north to the capital. But if you are stuck there I would try to learn as many local car manufacture’s names and make a list- just for the fun of to see how many different brands are on Chinese roads compared to the US.…
My wife and I would agree with you on every statement in that comment box. We love 2 seaters, don’t want kids. That’s how a good marriage works.
Easy, my first car ever. 2007 Hyundai Tiburon. That car has the looks but nothing else to back it up. I want to convert one to RWD in the worst way. I still can’t help but to appreciate the styling and in my eyes both the interior and exterior don’t look dated (even though the engine and transmission are) I know…
Good point, I learned how to sail when I was in 6th grade and am now we’ll into my 30s so I forgot about the learning stages. Now I remember going solo on a Lazer and being upside down more often than right way up...
I’ve played with jet skis on our lake and even in the ocean. They are fun but not enough challenge to use. That kind of goes back to why I don’t like modern cars. A jet ski you have can control forward and turning, on a sailboat you have to be making changes nearly constantly to maximize efficiency. Cars are the same,…
Exactly. That is why I have sailboats rather than jetskis and will drive a manual car as long as I am able to! There is so much more precision and planning involved that gives you a whole added level of enjoyment as well.
I like it. It is not perfect. It does not need to be. Its a good “what if” and gets your imagination going. Sure the plastic pieces wouldn’t rust, but when I think of rusted out cars, I only think of the all metal cars, so in my mind this look right.
I have a 2011 Camaro and I love the way my car looks. The new Camaro looks better in person than in pictures, and is better at is just about every measurable way, but still doesn’t look like a muscle/ pony car should. There are too many folds and creases and just looks too busy over all. I think most people who wanted…
Well mine isn’t that interesting, but its the internet so I can do what I want, so I’m going to tell my story.
So does this finally prove that Torch is a time traveler?
I’m thinking that many Bugatti’s average speed will probably be around 12 mph just being driven around parades and parking lots or just on and off a trailer. Being Lego, replacements parts are cheap and plentiful. Bonus that this is their all electric model, good for the environment too! This is a big improvement from…
I live right next to the new exhibition center. There was a mechanic around the corner that always had something interesting- barn find like Hongqi, Honda NSX, Nissan Skyline, etc. sadly they got kicked out and a fancy restaurant took its place. My friend worked near crab island. His boss has a collection of every…
I love the Hongqi, and being a Car Guy living in Beijing, I get to see them quite often. There was one just about a block from my house sitting in front of a mechanic’s shop, another friend’s collection had a few and they usually are at car shows here. Still, I have never seen one so clean. Most of the Hongqis look…
