Garden State was perfectly balanced between earnest and twee for late teens/early twentysomethings who were unwittingly mired in New Sincerity in the early '00s. I was part of that camp, but I suspect a lot of us aged out of it and became…not even more cynical, but less sentimental.

One of my go-to personality tests is to ask people their favorite Beatle. I'm also a George gal.

The song "One In A Million" has kept me from even an ironic appreciation of Guns N Roses. Fuck everything about that.

Just watched the bulk of 'em - that Throne of Blood video is outstanding (may be biased since it's one of my favorite adaptations/Shakespeare plays).

This makes this narrative/line of argumentation even more depressing.

I feel like Metropolis is pretty much the only necessary example of this.

Oh man, two hours of videos on Shakespeare in film?! Wonderful! Thanks for the recommendation :)

Charisma and style go farther than people think. Though I think she was pretty, anyway.

Now I'm picturing all these wealthy Americans with Newfoundland accents and it's hilarious.

Funny, because I'd never heard it used as Trans-Atlantic until recently. As a lover of all things relatively-old timey I'd love to learn to speak with it but the guides are few and far between.

What do Jonathan Safran Foer's missives have to say about it, though?

I just finished Ethan Frome, so this is a nice departure from…all of that, ahaha.

It's definitely my favorite of their albums.

Username/comment synergy :) Also: agreed!

I'm at 73 books out of the 100 I want to read this year and am feelin' like I'll get there.

This is my year of catching up on some of the major pop culture I've missed (just finished Breaking Bad for the first time, now watching Mad Men for the first time), so, with that in mind, I'm reading The Hobbit for the first time.

Book: Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
TV: I watched Breaking Bad for the first time, so, that. In terms of new stuff, I guess Westworld?
Movie: Kubo and the Two Strings
Comic: I read Rat Queens for the first time, so that. Haven't been keeping up with anything else.
Album: Lemonade by Beyonce.

I was spending my lunch breaks at work walking for a full 30 minutes, but now it's cold and I have to find another way. Snow's a-comin'.

Best Coast - Boyfriend
Joy Division - Day of the Lords
Blue Oyster Cult - E.T.I.
The Clash - Overpowered by Funk
Tacocat - Men Explain Things to Me
Regina Spektor - The Party
Modest Mouse - Alone Down There
Husker Du - Indecision Time
Wu-Tang Clan - Clan In Da Front
Echo & The Bunnymen - Nocturnal Me
The Stone Roses - She Bangs

I completely agree. I'm enjoying the plot/character arcs and think they should be tightened, but I'm ultimately way more interested in what the story is saying and how they're saying it than the emotional stuff of it.
