Ophelia's Revenge

Just finished Upstream by Mary Oliver recently and it was amazing because she's amazing. The essays are pretty tangential but they still cut through with startling insight; her essay on Poe might have been my favorite. It reads a lot like her poetry.

I'm happy he's still doing stuff but Bright Eyes was my sad college music and nope, never again.

I'll take that sofa and that Basquiat as soon as I enter the alternate universe where I can afford that sort of thing.

Thanks for making me guffaw at work and therefore draw attention to my not-working.

Tbf she should probably just win every year in perpetuity.

Cohen is a leagues better writer than Dylan, even if Beautiful Losers is mostly horrifying (and was written on an amphetamine binge! - it shows!)

I'm with you. I've been wanting a Wonder Woman live action feature film for well over a decade and I refuse to be cranky about it.

I think I can get away with covertly doing it - coworker and I both like metal/punk/classic rock but we share the office with a third person whose tastes are strictly top 40. This station is our best compromise but on days like this (where I'm running on seven hours of sleep over two days), nerves are a little frayed.

I want nothing more than the economy to get better so I can somehow be a novel-writin' housewife and tarot reader.

Complaints about the generic rock station we listen to in my new office:

Holy Fuck and White Lung are both playing here soon but I don't know if I have the time/energy/money for shows much anymore.

Congratulations, that's an awesome accomplishment!

I haven't! Added it to my to-watch list; I could've sworn I'd read the graphic novel but my Goodreads is telling me otherwise. I'll have to flip through a copy to see if it jogs my memory.

I got an ARC of this through NetGalley and was, for some reason, putting off getting started on it (I still might want to re-read the Tempest first). This review has definitely prompted me to move it up on my to-read list, though.

Shakespeare makes for great riffing, reference, and remake, but it's still pretty amazing to see or read as-is.

I really want to see this; the subject is fascinating and the use of rotoscoping in a documentary (esp. one focused on a violent event) is an interesting choice.

If we're sharing really good articles centered on this subject, the profile of Claire Wilson (one of the survivors) on Texas Monthly was also worth a read: http://features.texasmonthl…

I will forever associate them with Gossip Girl, just because I was watching it often at the time that their self-titled album dropped and because both were rooted in rich WASP fantasy.

I'm really curious about which Weakerthans album it was! I know Reconstruction Site was an entry point for a lot of people but I've never really taken to that album; Left and Leaving remains my fave (though I don't listen to it nearly as heavily as I used to, sometimes it feels a little overwrought for my current…

As a Pagan and ancient religions enthusiast, it kind of irritated me. There are so many Old Gods! WHICH ONES?! HOW OLD?!
