Weird, I'm also Canadian! I can see how that would be difficult - a lot of my friends who studied journalism also seem pretty disillusioned with it by now, even if they're gainfully employed in the field. I've flirted with the idea of law and writing the LSATs on a lark, but I don't know if my passion would match the

Thanks for this! Yeah, I have a BA in English, and, weirdly, it led to a decent clerical union job in a severely economically depressed area so it just doesn't seem plausible for me to pursue it, even if I love me a beautifully crafted longform essay.

Is Graham Greene there? Adam Beach is always the Young Native Guy and Graham Greene is the Old Native Guy. That's just, like, the rules of under-representing hundreds of unique cultural identities in cinema.

Adam Beach! Some representation for Native Americans would be great, since only two have ever been nominated for Oscars, despite being involved in film since the silent era.

I think Caputo has a lot of paternalistic and psychological projection-based views of Bayley, seeing a "good guy" in him that's not unlike the "good guy" Caputo thinks he is (or perhaps was in the beginning of his prison career). The really unfortunate thing about that is that neither of them has enough

I guess it's good that it's an awesome hairstyle, then.

Every time I think "hey, maybe I should go to journalism school", I remember every one of my miserable journalist friends' warnings and glumly heed them.

Ooh, that would bring added relevance/foreshadowing to Alex and Piper's death penalty conversation.

As a woc whose dream job would be TV writer (if not regular writer, but one who can actually complete and sell a manuscript), this makes me laughcry.

I was surprised that the show was able to make me laugh at Angie and Leanne shouting "Attica" as I was still reeling with sadness and shock at everything transpiring.

I'm also Team Flaca but she definitely has some occasional and brutal moments of assholery.

The show definitely needs to spend more time on Gina. I was expecting her flashback this season.

And I mean, regardless, one can't expect Samira Wiley to be the spokesperson for all black people in any context.

I really need this to happen.

Hapakuka is so low-key badass like that, I love her.

I think it's ultimately important that people are pointing out these problems, regardless of how anyone (black or not) chooses to feel about it. None of it occurred to me while watching it, and it wouldn't have if it hadn't been pointed out. I think that matters.

That was beautiful, ahaha

I also think the show wanted to initially measure the issue of race against Piper's white/class privilege, and since the show has become less primarily focused on her, it needed to find a new way to explore those dynamics and issues.

Great supplementary/related reading!

Yeah! I noticed that on re-watch but for some reason thought it was a town graveyard and that it symbolized Nicky's metaphorical death (plus I was assuming she'd die of an OD in max). Knowing that Tricia's there makes it all the sadder.
