There was no point in the story where they were both aware of her threats and not susceptible to her blackmail. From the moment she was aware she contained enough information to get either of them fired.

This seems like a spectacularly stupid way to experience the world but hey, if it works for you I won't judge too harshly.

It must be weird to go through life devoid of empathy and without even a basic theory of mind for characters in a fictional story, let alone the real human beings around you.
