Is that a front bumper or a stoppy bar? Based on the overhang, this thing seems like a seesaw.

I was the 2nd owner of my 2004 — previous owner had a fresh mazda rebuild put in, and it started getting poor compresison from the factory when warm after about 20k. Really disappointing...never had any oil issues, always used premix...did have a coil go which flooded and burnt the cats out. I miss driving it, but…
I didn’t think apex seals were an issue on the RX8...Lots of other issues but apex seals weren’t a major source of trouble.
I grew up a mile or so from there
Why did all these neoclassic repops all look almost the exact same? Between this, the Zimmer, and handful of short-lived others floating around that I would have to look up (Some Camaro-based, some Mustang-based) the body is damn near identical. Did one company make the tooling and then get bought out/passed around?…
I haven’t had any of those complaints after 9 years of ownership. The top goes up and down in 5-10 seconds, ergonomics are pretty much on par with other small roadsters. I have the turbo, which is a gem of an engine — the 2.4s are a bit of a dog but no more/less than a miata.
That’s the plan, I still have quite a few years in it, but I know it’s not a “forever” car :(
Add another sky owner who LOVES his car. Had it 9 years (longest I’ve had any car) and no plans to get rid of it. My only issue is I DD’d it through winters and now live at the beach so the salt is getting at the undercarriage a bit more than I’d like.
There are also FI kits for the 2.4. If you’re going to do a full build, the 2.4 is a solid option, just about everything else is the same or similar/swappable.
Its about the same as a miata, maybe a bit tighter. It’s roomier than a NB, but not quite as much as a NC.
There are very few engines I wouldn’t touch and/or bother with. The HT4100 is one of them, absolute piece of garbage with virtually no redeeming qualities. Somehow this one has lasted long enough to make it 56k. Probably safe to assume it will blow up shortly.
as Rob mentioned, the chassis and drivetrain were fine by this point (and the FWD 4L60E went in everything, easy rebuild). Biggest issue is HT4100, which had issues with everything from intake manifolds to head bolt threads stripping out (ironically also plagued later northstars) and head gaskets.
I have a 2003 A4 and it does the same thing. The blend doors will try to recalibrate themselves while teh car is off. I’ve never had any battery issues so it can’t take much juice, but you do hear the little servos shifting while the car is off.
I did a quick search for Jeep Renegades...the 10 year old Fiat based entry Jeep. We’re looking at 30k (granted this could be dealer markup too). I’d rather have this buick than the Renegade at that price. Honestly at that price, these are really competitive and (on paper) you get a lot for your money. Not a car I’d be…
It is a step in the right direction. When the bar is on the ground, it’s hard to go lower.
You could do a lot worse at this price point. Seems to be a reasonably maintained car with fairly ubiquitous mechanicals that will last a while longer (ad since its GM, it’s also a parts bin for interior stuff -- i.e. pretty sure that steering wheel is shared with the C6 vette). Its ugly, but it works.
Put it up on Barrett Jackson and let another “1 of 1" collector get it until he dies in a few years.
I always wonder about some of the VW based kit cars. The engine is at the back, so there isn’t much to cover up front. Why is the hood and grille so ungodly ugly? There is no functional requirement to have a giant box and grille up front. Make it look nice!
I’d love to see how the 4.0T in this compares to the last, and also a stage 1-2 tuned 4.0T from the previous S6/S7/S8. A stage 1 S7 has roughly the same power numbers as this one. Of course that isn’t a wagon nor comes with stuff like carbon brakes etc.
Leaving a fish on the doorstep of the goonies house for comedy. Is this Canadian mischief? Because thats lame as fuck.
