My wife had an 04 4cyl 4G64 eclipse that she used for about 12 years. It was dead reliable and served us really well. It wasn’t a particularly exciting car to drive, but for college-to-20s reliable economic cheap transportation it was pretty damn good. The real sad part of the model was on the performance side...with

Also my immediate first thought on reading the QOTD

I think it’s more for the clicks on the submission side. Our expectations are already really low on delivery...I don’t even bother to check it. I do enjoy debating the question in comments though.

GTI is compromise car. It does many things well enough, but does not excel beyond that. For a lot of folks that is great -- and its a dash of excitement in an otherwise depression-tier shitbox sector. I was in the same boat with my GTI -- I wanted more on the performance front after 2 years of ownership. That said,

This is somewhat common. I have no idea why, but hardly unusual for US-spec vehicles to have blinking red, while still having a “spot” for amber tails. I assume these days that it has to do with DOT lighting regulations that we all love. I have a Jeep GC and it’s an annoyance that I’ve noticed:

Counterpoint: Wayne is just Wayne on tv, a normal guy. Every other show has to have some sort of edgy cool spiky hair, leather-wearing soul-patched shitbird screaming at the camera and pulling “pranks”.

Same, I actually have all of their old seasons on a hard drive somewhere (before they were aired in the US) and they’re really great.

One common vein on almost all the answers: Discovery channel networks...

I watched an ep or two of graveyard carz (yes, with a Z because so edgy and cool). The main guy just kept coming up with (i.e. likely completely scripted in) useless knowledge of mopars as a “gotcha” whenever his ego felt particularly fragile. “yeah well, you didn’t know that in 1972 the coronet RT only had 765

I love motorweek, and particularly love their retro reviews. My wife absolutely hates it and can’t see any reason to watch it. For me its not only a slice of childhood, but also a pretty straightforward consistent review source.

Since its premiere in 2012, this series has centered way too much on the drama of its cast, instead of the vehicles they’re meant to be restoring. It gets real old, real fast.

Blanked switches and stuff, no big deal. Staring at this all day? Wow that sucks. They could have at least put a clock there or something. That said, this car doesn’t really need a tach since its an auto.

Erin’s sole purpose seems to be any excuse to make a political point, relevance be damned.

Anything old is going to be slow by virtually any modern standard (and those of about 30 years ago). Buying a car like this you’re not going for fast, but going to appreciate the existence of what it was in its time, styling, sound, etc.

You do you man. A bunch of random ass cheap parts thrown at a pretty nice frame. You’ll want to keep a close eye on those cheapo headset bearings, and also address the bottom bracket/bearings since the thing has been sitting outside for years. I know they’re not flashy or look cool, but thats the shit that will bite

Valve adjustments. They aren’t super hard to do but they used to be pretty a pretty frequent maintenance/tune up item, and can take a bit of time depending on the engine.

Vanthoor was trying to bump his way past for the last 90 minutes of the race, nearly every lap he was bumping Jaminet going into a corner (not sure which turn it was). I was waiting for him to take them both out. Exciting but kinda shitty tactic.

I like this — I think the Camaro was also a contender here. This 74 is just

I’ll add the much un-loved C4 corvette. I actually quite like these, even from the 80s/pre facelift.

Ugly, trying to use its name/muscle heritage as a selling point despite that its a soft FWD cruiser. At least the later ones had the 5.3 V8.
