I guess it’s been a while since the Soviets Russians did a big military laser weapon thing:

I feel lied to.

I’m with you

I can’t help but laugh/cry. I (and ALL of the other engineers designing cars today) have been fighting a violent and depressing battle with WLTP for the past 4 years and JUST NOW the motoring “press” has noticed it. Nice job keeping your fingers on the pulse of the industry. <SarcasticClap.gif>

Your last paragraph makes me question your dedication to the XJ cause. My 1991 XJ doesn’t have the smoker’s windows, but my friend’s 1993 does...

The driver here is aerodynamics. Side view mirrors can account for between 5% and 10% of the total vehicle drag, in addition to the wind noise issue. Aerodynamically, we’ve already picked all the low-hanging fruit, and the medium and pretty high stuff is already gone. We’re down to doing crazy shit like reducing the

Yeah, the new stuff should be described in the metric units it was designed in. The old stuff, on the other hand, should stay native ‘Murican (regardless of who bought/stole it for foreign use).  I’d feel pretty rotten about describing a Honda K20 as a “122 cubic inch engine”.  It just feels wrong.

A simple-man’s observations:

Whenever I read “unlimited range” I can’t help but ask if this somehow violates Conservation of Energy, or Conservation of Mass... I mean, it’s throwing something out the back to produce a propulsive force...

Better yet, this is a Performance Pack Level 1.  $40,000 to start.

Is it possible that I’m the only person here that actually owned one of these? My parents bought it brand-new in late 1984 and mom drove it until the mid 90s, when I bought it from her for a few hundred bucks. It was a perfectly fine car, when compared with everything it competed against. Mine was dark red, 2 door,

It’s all aero. Wind noise is dominated by A-pillar and mirror shape. Muffler flow detachment is a non-issue for them.

Dear fucking god do NOT call that detachment feature a diffuser. You will only confuse people. Diffusers play games with accelerated flows and pressure deltas to decrease lift. This is not doing anything other than kicking airflow off the muffler for drag reduction and it’s not terribly uncommon with transverse

I own a JK (2 door, stick, no carpet), XJ (spray painted in my garage), and WJ (basically a minivan). Here are my thoughts:

This seat belt on the toilet is not a new thing. This allows business jet builders to call the toilet an extra seat, upping the carrying capacity in the brochure. It’s a game as old as, well, the Hawker 4000 at least.

Ha this is brilliant! I’ve gone part-way down the wagon path with an old Jeep Cherokee. It’s probably about the same size inside as your 6, but not nearly as efficient or tossable (unless roll-over accidents are your thing). It’s more like a lumber cart than a car, really. At least it’s unibody...

Looks like you’re the 1% of Americans that know that they don’t need an SUV to do wagon things! You inspire me :)
