Neutral: I used to have a 1983 C70 Passport motorbike when it was already 25ish years old. Super fun and 100 mpg. I replaced it with a Vespa which was a mistake. I miss that thing.

This is such an interesting tale. I applaud your dedication but must admit I don’t have the time or the inclination to go all-in like you did. That being said, I also wouldn’t want to go and just gawk. I’d be very interested in a guide that could let me split the difference and help me get into the spirit of things

A-fucking-men. Maybe my school was weird, but when I was in grade school 30 years ago my teachers were very clear about climate change and what it was and what it meant and how to stop it. We have known what to do, we just haven’t done it. If I were 16 right now I’d be pissed at us too.

It’s called prototyping.

Ah, shucks.

Wow, now he’s REALLY lost my vote.

Mine’s a Jamis Explorer, actually. The conversion kit they do now is called the Leap. Mine is an older version that was called the Free Radical, but same idea. Here it is with the kid trailer for full ridiculousness:

I have slowly built this Frankenbike over the years. It is a standard midgrade mid-90s rigid mountain bike that I first converted to a cargo bike with an Xtracycle conversion kit, and then last year added a Copenhagen Wheel, which is fantastic for in-town use.

NotAllBernieSupporters and all that, but Bernie supporters as a group don’t need any outside help in the asshole department.

Never cross the kitchen. Never. Cross. The. Kitchen.

The fact that all of Southern California isn’t a cycling mecca is an absolute tragedy. Imagine SoCal weather with Dutch bike infrastructure.

Relevant to this discussion: eBikes are still bikes, at least type-1 ebikes. I have a very hilly 17 mile round-trip commute to work. Last year, I started riding it with a longtail cargo ebike. Still had to work plenty hard, just not AS hard as a regular bike. Now that the weather is cooling down and I’ve been riding

Yes. Liquor. I meant liquor. Definitely just that.

We always need reinforcements. And, you know, supplies (wink) from Colorado (wink wink).

When looking at only cars then yes, but a taxing carbon footprint as a whole is going to hit rich folks hard. Bigger house, more air travel, etc.

We’ve been working on Utah from the inside for some time. It’s a long game, but one I’m confident we can win.

Salt Lake City, a bastion of liberalism in the Red Sea that is the rest of Utah, currently has a liberal lesbian mayor and has had liberal (though nominally non-partisan) mayors for the last 30 years at least, which is as far back as my personal political memory goes. I am not aware of an LDS mayor in my lifetime.

It speaks to the stature of MLS that I live in Salt Lake and this is the first I’m hearing of this.

Plenty of idle plants lying around for them to buy up with the revenue an order like this brings in.

Adding to the efficiency of and EV in this scenario is that idle time is pretty much not a factor for an EV (except for climate control use).
