I freelanced for Cosmo for a little bit off and on and when Brown died I went to the Hearst Building, the new-ish one on 8th Avenue, to take one last look at her amazing office. I greeted the security guard by name, and he claimed he didn’t know me and couldn’t let me up because no one was expecting me. Not that he

Eve Burton is an influential journalism lawyer and deserves the press. As I understand it, when she came in Hearst was doing about 10% of its legal work / litigation in-house, and by now she has flipped that to about 90%. I just think she’s cool

This is definitely a complex issue, given the controversial figure Brown cut and the fact that many things written about her tend to sensationalize her (admittedly sensational) life, and I’d hate for newer scholarly work that might reconsider and recontextualize her to be shut out. But as a longtime (on-and-off)

Independent study with a highly-qualified on-set tutor instead of “regular school,” I think. Not that her own natural intelligence, curiousity, and critical thinking skills should be discounted either; but the one-on-one (or, tiny group) classes probably help alot.

When I was 13 (which was well before the days of the Internet), I would have LOVED it if someone criticized what I wrote based on its substance. That would’ve meant that someone skipped past the detail of my age and wanted to engage me as a person with thoughts and opinions.

After checking out her actual Instagram a bit, I think she wrote this. There is a clip of her giving a speech at the UN for #HeForShe

She gets it from her mother.

Ever been on Tumblr? There are some very well educated kids out there.

In this day and age, it’s entirely reasonable for preteens and teens to be exposed to feminist writing etc. online, especially if she’s using Tumblr. Don’t write her off just because she’s young.

“I don’t like the concept of monogamy, but I DO like letting my wife believe I do so she’ll be home with a hot dinner waiting for me at night, keeping the house clean and parenting my children so I have plenty of time and mental space to obsess about what else I deserve out of life.”

The bastards doing this are cheap.

“But when you’re trying to hook up with a married man, that guy already has enough on his plate without having to jump through the hoops of dating.”

Because the two most memorable things about that character are that she gets pretty much all of her stories by screwing Kevin Spacey, and that she dies by being pushed in front of a train? She was not a tenacious reporter, she violated every journalism ethic and then got murdered. Not a role model.

Well, I know it’s going to be easy to criticize this guy and everything he did but, in fairness, I think he did a great job directing Argo.

I automatically type 1995 everywhere because that was the year Clueless came out.

“I delivered what you asked for. It’s not my fault you didn’t say anything beyond `For new web site pickuppregnantchicks.com .’”

I know the dad was scared as hell but his reaction once he was assured his wife and daughter were okay was really cute.

“I’d prefer you didn’t” would have saved a lot of trouble. (and spared us this^) “

My biggest beef with my husband when we were in the throes of childrearing — he would “help” by doing things that didn’t need to be done right then. For example, we’re preparing for a family gathering and he helps by cleaning the garage. Then he gets mad when I get mad, because it’s not like he’s doing NOTHING.
