A major thing that makes the SLS system old is the use of hydrogen/oxygen as opposed to SpaceX going with methane/oxygen. The reports said hydrogen is difficult to deal with and corrosive to seals, etc. Also dangerous. Methane is supposed to be 90% as powerful but without most of the dangers. It’s worth considering.
