I was at a convention, and was lucky enough to watch Sonic Fox bust out the intro of ‘Take On Me’ with this guy, as well as a couple other tunes. Think he was doing the Evangelion them too. Laughed my tail off.

Agreed. My drafting class wouldn’t let us use mechanical pencils, but oh god, being able to ditch my complicated technical pen for a set of Pigma Microns was amazing. The stodgy old teachers who had been in the industry for years were amazed by them.

My drafting class also taught us how to make a chisel point with the sandpaper blocks. This takes a bit of getting used to, as the point (edge, really) is off-center from the lead, but it lasts a long time, and gives you a lot of line weight control. It also lets you get the point *exactly* along the edge of a ruler…

Any good art supply store should have them, either with the sketching pencils or the drafting supplies. Of course one can order online, but better to support your neighborhood art/drafting store.

You should. The Lead Pointers (what the sharpeners are called) will put a nice even point with just a few spins. The little pith insert is to clean the dust off your point (very important when dealing with drafting vellums).

Doesn’t need to be cloud. Got a friend or other offsite location you can trust? Set up a small computer with some hard drives. Connect to it remotely, do data transfers when you’re not online. Heck, could do it with a RasPi if you really felt like it.

Actually, the easy one is just to have an external backup hard drive with a long cord, and put that in your bag. Panic mode engages, unplug cord, zip up bag, go.

I have always expressed to folks the need for an emergency kit.
