I think my key objection is the use of hexagonal tiles. This completely removes the isometric aspect, which let you have the purple uglies that used the sides to jump on.

Eh, landfills have never exactly been 'great big compost heaps', despite what you may have been told. They're really just a place to stash garbage, and if things /happen/ to decompose, then that's just a bonus. Readable newspapers from a hundred years ago are not uncommon.

As someone who went to this con, it's nice to hear an outsider's perspective. It sounds like you had fun, and that's pretty much the whole point of a convention.
