I want Terry Silver to win

I remember A.O. Scott from Ebert’s rotation of “At the Movies” critics after Siskel died. He’s a tough cookie

Blade Runner was also too downbeat, even in its truncated state with an over-explanatory voiceover. Tron just looked weird, and, with its video game tie-ins, came on like more of a commercial than a movie.

It’s also really weird that the writer makes “IP is king” sound like a good thing. (Or that it’s even a fact)  I’d give anything to go back to putting faith in filmmakers.

I think the stories don’t have to revolve around the incidents, but seeing (or just talking about) the why and how of it can give a better understanding for who this hero is in a reboot’s new context. To be specific, I think Spider-Man: Homecoming was bad at this, and The Batman was good at this.

Nice! That was a good read. I like the point about how ardent fans are now doing what studios used to pay PR to do, when it comes to defending their products. And it is interesting to consider that in the landscape of cinema, we are witnessing:

Shang Chi. The one you’re forgetting is Shang Chi.

I came across this essay bringing up similar points. We may think we’ve seen things like a genre dominating cinema before, but we really haven’t seen anything like this superhero craze. If you have the time, I recommend checking it out:

On this note, I might bring up examples like seeing Uncle Ben die or Bruce Wayne’s parents murdered. When a movie skips this, they are precisely requiring outside knowledge of itself to work. People love this, but I’ve never have, and we are seeing the road this takes us down. I understand how tedious it is to see

You’ve basically articulated why I thought Loki was terrible, and feared/suspected it would be damaging to the MCU at large. (I know I’m in the minority on this opinion.) It undermined everything to the point where nothing matters, while also making the MCU as convoluted as the comics it adapts. The two mediums are

it seems rare to hear a famous artist write and record a hot new track explicitly for a movie in 2022

Come on, don’t tell me Danger Zone doesn’t get you pumped! It’s a workout favorite of mine. And if Maverick doesn’t have a montage, I’ll be docking an entire letter grade

That’s true. His public face was quite pleasant to help hide the facade. But I guess that’s because at that point in the timeline, he was sitting pretty.

The New York Times asked him if he has “disowned” that film

but after shooting in the dark, realize no one is there.

Natalie through resentment boiling over into hiring a hitman to kill Sally.

I agree with virtually every word you said. Nothing to add.

“Hamlindigo Blue knit tie” heheh. I love that Howard has an iconic look. While I’m not thrilled about their plot to destroy him (I find him oddly sympatheic), the length of these schemes have been quite something to watch unfold. Even the need to reposition the parking sign was harrowing. Really great direction from

Lol, honestly, yea. That kinda cut me deep

I get what you’re saying, and it would be one thing if Murray was defending himself, but he is clearly taking responsibility for what happened, so we can’t blame the internet mob on this one. As far as if she overreacted, it’s entirely possible, but they did a whole internal investigation and concluded the film needs
