So is the Kingpin not as big of a deal in the NY crime world of Luke Cage? I feel like a missed moment would have been a quick reference to Kingpin from someone.  

If they set things up right the next Defenders should really be a Kingpin story. Luke as an opposing “good guy Kingpin” is a great idea, and the others would fit into that kind of story nicely.

I agree with you, if Danny had come around after Luke nearly killed Cockroach and drove Claire away it would have made more sense.
