I am trying to think what costar Kurt Russell had the best chemistry with, and while I realize he made several movies with his longtime companion Goldie Hawn—and he and Jennifer Jason Leigh were pretty great in Hateful Eight—I really think I have to go with Keith David in The Thing.

Part of the problem with having a “super genius” who is supposedly dozens - nay, hundreds - of steps ahead of everyone else is the character is still being written by normal people. We’re just supposed to accept that his plan is a super genius plan and we don’t get it because we’re not super geniuses.

If only there was some kind of super powered detective on the team. Incredibly skilled, wanting to prove himself, full of intentions but with flexible morals that allow him to do something that the rest wouldn’t. That would be helpful right about now.

I don’t want to go overboard, but here’s the thing: If this were to evolve into a “Santa Escapes from....”, well, gosh darn it, I’d be happy.

Stephen Dillane is so phenomenal in John Adams.

Uh, what? Stannis was super popular. People called him Stannis the Mannis.

I rewound that three times on first airing, it gave me so much joy:

I loved the Battlestar Galactica vibe of it. And the space views looked awesome! That floating earth shot was stunning.

“I’m a biologist, but sure, I can invent time travel. Just give me a minute.”

The only slightly odd note is Mack...

Oh for Christ’s sake, it’s not the best. Not even close. Not even Top 100.

The other thing about whether Max should be the hero or not is, except for maybe the first one, I haven’t seen it in awhile, (and this has been repeated but it seemed unmentioned in the article) he is a stray dog who wonders into other people’s stories. That’s a feature of the franchise, not a bug of Fury Road.

Yes. That’s true in general, a lot of the issues with the writing of female characters is that there’s just so few of them in the same story. Putting the effort into just having several female characters is definitely the best ‘first step’.
