The problem with this ban is that it has many downsides (it costs money, it’s a repudiation of longstanding American values regarding immigrants, it hurts American businesses who have hired immigrant workers, it denies innocent people an education, it endangers political and war refugees, it separates families, etc).

Nobody actually wanted to stop green card holders at all — except Stephen Bannon, who overrode the DHS’s initial decision not to detain them.
