For god only knows what reason, I flipped to CNN for the first time in forever and all I hear is Trinidad James say something like "If I call you my nigga, you my nigga!" It was so perfect.

AAA+++ PERFECT FOR WHITE GUILTERS, WOULD LISTEN AGAIN
It's probably HIT-RON. Cru-Ron, Des-Ron, etc.
You're welcome. It's also called a "Flettner Rotor" and has even been experimented with as a replacement for wings on an aircraft. It didn't work so well for that. Flettner was also an early innovator of the Helicopter in Nazi Germany.
Cool! I'd heard of the Magnus effect in explaining the behavior of balls with spin, such as curveballs in baseball, but hadn't known about these applications. Thanks!
It's the same concept as a Turbosail such as Jacques Cousteau used on a couple of experimental vessels. Sadly the technology hasn't been further developed very much. It's a great idea that's just a little too technological for most sailing vessels. See also the Magnus Effect.
My father had the bright idea one time in the late 80s (88-89) to take us out an overnight shark fishing trip down there. Anchored up, with lines everywhere. You hear a screaming motor approach, but no lights visible of course, sounds like it's headed right for you it's so damned loud. We rush to put all the lights…
You are arguing with yourself. Yes I realize helo is a common term within the military and the aviation community, globally even. I am even justifying my use of other terms journalistically and you aren't hearing it.
The average public doesn't know what a helo is. Chopper is slang for helicopter all over. Good for making character limited titles pop
Little Birds!
Wow, this is fascinating. That helo with0ut the tail rotor. Mindblowing. My first thought seeing the picture of that helo was "where's it's tail rotor," and I thought that tailboom somehow negated the need for it. The explanation of how it really works was really good. Tyler, your posts are clear, filled with…
Still some of the best lines of any helo. Fast too, 168 knots VNE.
"A bit mushy" is an understatement. You have to anticipate your yaw movements so much that landing in any way besides straight into the wind becomes an unacceptable work load. Mechanically, its a great system, very quiet as you already noted, very simple, and less prone to damage than a standard tail rotor. The parts…
I came here to say just that-I love our coasties!!
Might want to go down to Jacksonville and tell HITRON 10 that they are a sham then. Maybe before disparaging a article like this you should check your facts and timeframes. Aside from that, good work and thank you for your service!
That Marlboro McLaren livery still looks good.
It is a Robar .50 bolt action I believe. Sorta one of the first bolt action .50s from the 1990s
The Coast Guard is also using sensors in the ocean that picks the high revving smuggler boats. They were field testing them several years ago at CFB Nanoose Bay, BC. One of them washed up on Tribune Bay (Hornby Island) and when I returned it to the base they explained what they were for.
You don't have a problem with such destructive and dilapidating drugs being legal in the US? I think the government has a responsibility to keep these drugs away from the public.
Good article. Its not often we get some good details and stories about the often-overlooked coast guard!
