that’s absolutely NOT correct - the reason the “older” standards are included is to ensure backwards compatibility - that has always been and always will be the case and a major benefit for wi-fi (and why new “better” technologies do not replace wi-fi)

There is a new technology coming to a router near you called NbaseT which will offer either 2.5Gbps or 5Gbps...it has been developed to be less costly than existing 10Gbps ethernet but its existence is to resolve the very issue you raise.

Maybe someone already said this...but to get the higher speeds to you will need to have 802.11ad at both ends of the link....so unless your media center, TV, Roku box, Apple TV, Chromecast or other WI-Fi enabled media streamer is 802.11ad enabled (which they are not)......all you will actually get is 802.11ac or even
