The NBC of 2006 - 2011 protected those shows, but since then they've quietly chased away all of their talent while replacing them with mountains of shit. NBC hasn't really produced a comedy worth watching since Community, six years ago. Their great track record is long gone at this point.

That would be amazing but I also don't want to lose her on B99. Conflict!

I like Art of Discourse, I just think it's like a B+ in a sea of A+.

I never really got the complaints about the length either. lt felt a lot less bloated than most Apatow movies to me. I still think 2+ hour comedies are mostly unnecessary, but this one didn't bother me too much.

They're already done writing Season 2 I think, and like Anon User said, I believe they'll actually have little day-to-day say in the new series.

I think a Fey takedown of Fox News types could be incredible actually. And the original pitch of 30 Rock was a show about a cable news network, so maybe she already has ideas.

Yeah, but being on NBC means either a) NBC actually airs your show and ruins your chance of success simply by being a show that exists on their network or b) you wind up on another network that actually knows what they're doing. Might as well just skip the first part!

These both sound promising, but why would any self-respecting comedy writer get into business with NBC at this point?

The only thing that really keeps the second half of S1 from being perfect is The Art of Discourse, which isn't even bad at all but is definitely a notch below top level. But yeah, for the most part it's really excellent.

I'd like to rewatch S6 with the knowledge that it's the last. I feel like a lot of things would click into place knowing that, to the extent where I wish they had announced it upfront.

I think after S1 and the first half of S2, the ending of S6 would actually be my pick for this question. Most of the classics in the second half of S2 and S3 were surrounded by not-so-terrific entries, S4 is S4, S5 is generally good all around but rarely classic. But those last three S6 episodes were a really good

Conspiracy Theories is the clear weak link of that group, but it really just shows how amazing a streak the show was on because it's still top level Community and would be one of the best 3-4 episodes of any other season.

208 through 211 is a ridiculous murderers' row. In fact, I might say it's the greatest streak of episodes of a comedy series. The only thing that might challenge it is…I don't know, something in Simpsons Seasons 4-7.

I feel like "poking fun at both sides" was basically the standard way for irreverent shows like this and Futurama to tackle political issues in the 90s/early 00s (with South Park being the ultimate king of it.) Things seem a lot more politicized now though - basically whenever a comedy gets political it goes full

Yeah, I honestly enjoyed the first few episodes but it wasn't til around the midway point that it graduated to being truly great.

In the '00s when mainstream music was mostly despised and cool indie bands were all the rage people bitched and moaned about hipsterism and "elitist" attitudes on this site and others like it. Now they're flipping the switch and, of course, people are bitching.

Not to be all boring and nerd-y, but I'm guessing this is around the time the 1996 Telecommunications Act went into effect, which is when they shortened running times for shows (I think from 24 minutes to 22 minutes). So there'll probably be few syndication cuts now. Although there might be some weirdness, like how 30

Lisa's Wedding is really great in how it depicts the most likely future for all of the characters rather than resorting to ridiculous extremes like most shows would (and even this show did in other episodes.) No one's saving the world and no one's a miserable failure, everyone's just chugging along in their own way.

I really never understood why so many people say Lisa episodes are typically weak. So many of the show's all-time best episodes are Lisa episodes: Lisa's Substitute, I Love Lisa, Lisa's Wedding, Lisa the Vegetarian, Summer of 4 ft. 2…I can't even think of any "bad" Lisa episodes from the golden years.

Mine would be…5 > 8 > 4 > 6 > 1 > 3 > 2 > 7
