So they’re charging passengers (who have no control of the driver’s decision) money until the driver has to make a decision to go electric? (and may not, ultimately?) That sounds peachy.

Judging by the comments I’ve gotten for this, it’s untrue and I take it back.
Insurance reasons, it’s a lot lower for a 4-seater than a 2-seater.

Couldn’t agree more - this thing is so silly.
Can an automaker make a dashboard like this work? I get it - airbags, infotainment, soft plastic for fragile fluid-filled meaty heads. But dang if it isn’t gorgeous..
I believe the reason is that they can’t risk any chance of their electronics (lots) draining the car battery. I think start-stop is a good idea, but I have a feeling even the chance of [Start #1;Drive;Stop;Run Electronics;Sta... oof battery is dead] is enough to keep them from it.
