Since at least the 2015 F-150 Ford has had what they call a Smart Tow Connector that tells you in the instrument cluster which trailer lights are working and which are not on a diagram of a trailer.
Ford’s integrated trailer braking system is made by Tekonsha and it goes off of a brake fluid pressure sensor. The other truck brands OEM controllers just use inertia and accelerometer sensors like aftermarket units which is why they aren’t as good.
It sure beats slapping a BMW badge on your Cruze along with “BMW-style” tail lights.
