failed to hand the baton to English Gardner.’

*yawn*

Was Noel a failed pick? You could argue they did the best they could do in that draft and might have gotten the draft’s best player.

Albert Burneko still has no idea what he is talking about.

Man, you guys have a vendetta. Yeesh.

“No “observers” were “scratching their heads” during the three years it took Daryl Morey and the Houston Rockets to recover fully from the unexpected end of Yao Ming’s career.”

So, did Drew get fired or something? Is he doing chopped full time now...?

I (somehow) read every word of this post, as well as the article. All I can say is this: Sam Hinkie, wealthy man, lives rent-free in Burneko’s head.

lol

You can only win championships with FA if you’re an attractive destination. Philly is not, they were doomed to 8th seed type seasons for eternity unless they did something dramatic. It’s not complicated, end of story.

This article is similar to the puff piece about Hinkie that it criticizes, in that it provides little balance to its claims.

Hinkie does know what he’s talking about. The Process is working. And you’re all just a bunch of babies about it. This is like your Bill Simmons feud. Except worse.

You’re ignoring the fact that LeBron was drafted 13 years ago and left Cleveland at one point, the Kyrie led Cavs sucked, and the other #1 overall pick they made is already out of the league. This championship Cavs team was assembled through free agency, not the draft.

I’m in line with Deadspin ideologically on just about everything, but Hinkie is a major exception. I really do think that, in spite of how painful it was, he had the right idea for maximizing the team’s chance at an eventual championship. Obviously a #1 pick is never guaranteed, but most of the real impact players go

I just don’t get it. Especially not after we just saw a championship won by the team that won the lottery three times in four years and led by....the guy they drafted #1 overall.

This is a dumb thing that Deadspin has tried to make into a running gag, and it’s just not working because they’ve taken the exactly incorrect stance. It would be like trying to do a pro-Cardinals or pro-Cincinnati chili gag.

Albert could you save us the 1000s and 1000s of words and just tell us how many times Hinkie fucked your girl? Or maybe it was just someone who reminds you of him?

I don’t know. A lot of this reads like what got written in places like LA and Toronto about Moneyball after DePodesta and Ricciardi got fired. The strategy is a bad one because it failed and so on.
