There's something interesting in this though…in groups of friends, especially in small towns where there's not many other friends to be made, it gets like that. People date, move on, date someone else in the circle of friends / acquaintances. So I actually find that aspect of the Ann storyline pretty believable.

No way — I've seen people with recently deceased relatives get chopped, people from "the school of hard knocks" get chopped…it might skew more one way than the other, but a sympathetic story is not a guarantee (especially since most of the chefs have some kind of traumatic event, or something to prove).

Not true! I've seen some inspired desserts during my Chopped watching, and they're judged on "the whole meal" — appetizer, entree, and dessert — fairly consistently.
