Yeah, I know. But this movie in particular didn't seem to be using a radically non-standard conceit. I was amped to see it because I thought it would be radical or have a unique point of view. But…I didn't see it.

After watching The Artist, I felt like I had just seen something a little hollow. The style of it isn't necessarily unique (or, if it's allll about the homage, even accurate — it felt digital, sharp). I might be spoiled from Guy Maddin movies, which use silent film techniques in a mesmerizing and beautiful way.
