This has been a thing in India and Pakistan since the introduction of the automobile, it carried over from what they used to with horse carriages, that itself dated all the way back to the Kuru emperor Sudas and is mentioned in the Rigveda which was about 1200-1400BCE. Maybe do some research…

1) - India does it as well.

2) - It’s completely normal in India also.
