How come no one talks about the wait times in the US? Have “great” insurance and need to see a specialist? It could be six months before an appointment opens up with a doctor that accepts your insurance. I have to wait three months for an appointment with my dermatologist for an annual screening.

It’s not just the pricing, but the US also has the highest rate of maternal mortality in the developed world.

Another person who lives in Australia here, and those conversations with Aussies are bizarrely entertaining for me at this point. I recount how American healthcare costs a fortune (sometimes even when you have pretty good insurance), about how you basically need to have a job to have remotely affordable health

I was discussing with an American friend (who does have decent healthcare through his work) about my brush with death when I had pneumonia. It included many trips to doctors, including calls to my house, tests, and a boatload of different medications. He was really concerned with how much in debt I must be - I’m not.

I wish all the Canadians who kvetch about wait times for stuff like knee replacements would read this thread. Our health care is not perfect - we do have some problems with getting doctors and specialists outside of big urban centres, which drives up wait times, but that has nothing to do with private vs public. And

You know it’s so weird, I live in Australia, where we have a slightly fucked up combo system of public and private.(Not to mention a deeply fucked up conservative government). There’s currently a ‘crisis’ in our private insurance sector because young people aren’t taking it up. They’re not getting private health

That’s cute that you think young “Democrats” are responsible for this nonsense.

Black women weren’t backing Harris either, though.

She had a ridiculous advantage in early fundraising and got a slew of endorsements, there’s no reason she should’ve dropped out before Iowa if that campaign was even halfway competent. It’s not the end of her career by a long shot, and probably not even her final presidential run. But this was a faceplant.

Right? As a Californian, I remember all the wack shit she pulled when she wasn’t trying to become President. Fighting trans prisoner’s access to medical treatment. Jailing parents of truant kids. The whole crime lab scandal. Honestly, the main thing in her favor was that she wasn’t Joe Biden or some other Generic

Coincidentally Warren’s slide and Buttigieg’s rise come immediately after Pete meets with Zuckerberg, Thiel, & Trump.

He didn’t try to do anything. He gave up every fight before they started. He didn’t close Gitmo,or end either war. He made a deal with big drug companies to keep prices high. He greatly increased surveillance of private citizens. He started the detention camps for immigrants and family separation. His healthcare plan

And he certainly doesn’t owe it unwavering support to Bernie Sanders or a socialist America, no matter how many idiotic “Obama has betrayed us!” pieces this site comes up with, ignoring the fact that Obama has always been a liberal, not a socialist.

Obama and his family are much better off financially because he was President.  Let’s not pretend being in office is some sort of civil servant thankless job.  You become President and you are set for life.

Her and her entire family should really be burned at the stake.  It pisses me off to no end that Erik Prince is still a free man.

Not for nothing, but you all know you didn’t cover any of Fiona Hill’s testimony yesterday, right? I’m pretty sure you might have found a way to make that fit in with whatever secret mandate you have been handed about what Jezebel, The Slot or the Barf Bag are supposed to be.

I’m not a huge fan of George Lucas, but I’m not surprised he didn’t like TFA. It took everything that happened in the previous six movies, burned it to the ground, and swept it into a shallow grave. Then just retold the story of ANH with (mostly) different characters.

Prove to me that we were “fine with” Caitlin Jenner’s award. Which was in 2015, so maybe also explain why you remain fixated on it. And definitely include a paragraph detailing why you insist on misgendering a transwoman.

They really only care about sexually harassment because they were victims.”

Aside from the obvious cruelty and misogyny involved in this, here’s an angle today’s Republicans aren’t considering: the inherent incompatibility of social conservatism with economic conservatism. While this legislation obviously promotes the religious right’s anti-choice position, it will also create youth flight
