Is it possible... That our expectations of a really ground-breaking or exceptional game are now so high that they require decade long development, and that any game with a long development cycle gets ridiculed. I think this model is a result of customer expectations vs realism.

Jalopnik most certainly does not report on Tesla without bias. Im not a Tesla fan, but there is a clear distaste for Tesla here. Articles are either negative, or sarcastically congratulatory.  There is very rarely a neutral or positive article.
