I don’t know how those two worked together so long given what is obviously animosity between them. I mean, they wouldn’t even let Maslany’s character come to the backyard party with the other clones.

I’d say it’s some fairly on-the-nose Orientalizing of the “bad guys” to match the cultural zeitgeist of the Trump era.
