Perhaps the scene is different depending on your affinity with the light/dark side? When Luke faced Yoda's cave he was beginning to struggle with the Dark Side so it showed him a possible outcome of that. If he had gone in as fully light side the revelation would've been greatly diminished and almost pointless.

I think much of it has to do with reliability. Spoony talked about it once, PC gaming, especially DOS gaming was a hit and miss, and today the games are nearly impossible to get to run. Whereas an NES game, you know it's going to work in your NES.
