Read Peter Guralnick's Last Train To Memphis and the second volume, Careless Love. In fact I think the second volume may be even better as a sensitive picture of a man falling apart. Awesome biography.
I'm so glad I came upon this review. I may make my first trip to a record store in six months.

USAGI!! and again I say USAGI He is the rabbit who would prefer not to have to kill you all - unless you really piss him off.

Well put. Owly does seem like what happens if you think "well, to make it for kids, I'll just make it as simple and sweet as possible". I can vouch for most of your choices. My daughter (8) adores Fashion Kitty, Babymouse and Amelia. And hhow can we not mention the whole range of Simpsons comics?

Damnit! Advertising your own book again using the discussion board! Has it made you a single sale yet? Begone, self-published troll!

I envy you.

Meta Maus is very good for what it is. Which is a lot of interviews with Spiegelman, a lot of extra background about his chilhood and family, a lot of old photos, both family and historical, reprints of some related comics by A.S., some "outtakes" and other sketch-pad material from Maus etc. If you are interested, it

"Moon". I really liked that movie. Does "How To Survive in a Science Fictional Universe" count? And though it is more than a little tangential, I take every opportunity to suggest "Raising Stoney Marshall" by Daryl Gregory

Totally disagree about THX 1138. Way better than Westworld. And how could you not mention Sleeper? Or Clockwork Orange?

Thanks for the link. I'm mainly just happy that serious people are taking comics seriously enough to bother writing about them. About that review, she has some good points, but her analysis also only goes to the level of "smart undergrad who has read Said". I think you could also make a case that Habibi deconstructs

Thanks for mentioning "Electric Eden". That would have slipped totally past my radar.

If Bill Murray had starred in "Lady Killers", it would have been a very good movie. He could have done great supporting work in "Barton Fink", too. I'm tempted to say he would have been a better star in "Hudsucker", too, but I suppose he would have been too goofy.

The grades seem to be trending unusually low this time. Just random distribution, or something else?

Oh, and the psychiatrist at the beginning of "Bottle Rocket"

The doctor in the novel "Room" by (going on memory here, may be wrong) Emma Donahue.

And it is on Netflix for streaming.

Put your hate aside this holiday season. Or hate Mickey instead (he's hated so much, he'll never notice a little extra). Emmet Otter will warm your cockles. And the Nightmare Band RAWK!

You are correct. Andy rarely got the better of Flo in a fight. One, he was drunk, Two, she was always armed, Three, she got the jump on him by waiting at home until he came through the door.

Now that it's back in action, I'm back to hoping to oneday see "An Achewood Christmas". I'm not even going to try to come up with jokes as funny as what Olmstead could do with that.

My mom (now 68y/o) used to tell me about how, when she was a kid, Disney comics were the only ones her God-fearing,central Ohio Farm-living, Scottish Presbyterian parents let her read. Lucky. I wish the stuff uptight parents let their kids read today was as good.

Aren't you the same guy who was trolling about how nobody wanted to read comics by Jewish people last month?
