There is a fan website somewhere where someone checked on the restaurants (Kitchen NIghtmares blog on Blogger).

He's leaving because if you look at the rundown of restaurants that he visited in "Kitchen Nightmares," almost ALL of them failed. Perhaps one show per season has learned from their mistakes and survived long-term. All the others have tanked.
