That is something that I am in the process of trying to find out. I just started seeing a therapist (I turned down this suggestion many, many times before) after trying AA, & other self-help remedies. I drank to keep some sort of pain at bay... But after a while alcohol just becomes it’s own demon & isn’t “helping”…
