Take some time and watch some of “Not Just Bikes” older videos. Some European cities managed to do just that. It takes a lot of planning and commitment though.

Battery cell prices are dropping. One year ago a $25K Model 3 and Y were a pipe dream. That may be possible next year. Although with slightly lower content. The following were not my ideas to get the cost down.
My wife and I are both Tesla owners. I agree that Tesla isn’t an AI company. If anything, they are a leader in EV components, software, data collection and analytics, EV charging and are becoming very profitable in grid scale and home energy storage.
As someone that went through three CVTs in a 2017 Outback, I have a theory.
Chill mode is all my wife and I drive in. We are still looking at $1,400 for a set of tires every 40-50K miles instead of $1,000. That’s roughly equivalent to the cost of DIY synthetic oil changes over that many miles.
It’s all in how you drive. Many EV owners report 40k+ miles from OEM tires as long as they don’t accelerate hard.
I’m very pro-EV, but I’m with your family on two points. My wife and I both drive EVs.
Neutral;
They also messed up their EV software bad. That alone has cost them sales. They tried to be Tesla light with the infotainment but didn’t do it well.
Most chargers don’t have those windshield squeegees. My first EV road trip required a stop at Dollar General to get a tub of glass wipes to get the bugs off.
I bet there is a ton of demand if the Silverado EV was priced the same as it’s ICE counterpart. However, they probably can only break even at the higher trim levels. GM would rather wait 1+ years to cut costs, increase margin then roll out the lower trims.
A bicycle was my primary vehicle for commuting to work between 2003 and 2017. From 2001 to 2003, I had a 150+ mile round trip commute that I hated. It sucked all my free time and all I did was work, eat, sleep and drive. When I had the opportunity to move close to work, I jumped at it. Since then, I have always lived…
Just because its rare, doesn’t make it valuable or desirable.
People who can charge at home or work will use level 2 most of the time. However, for EVs to hit mainstream adoption, people who don’t have that luxury need charging options. That will likely be DC fast charging.
I have a Tesla Model 3 and have road tripped it a few times.
Here is how I would have handled it, assuming I was “over” the Suburban by the time the inspection was due.
The $30-35/square foot price doesn’t help the demand for Tesla solar shingles. To replace my roof with 25 year architectural shingles is estimated at $15k. GAF solar shingles is $51k. Tesla solar roof is $140k.
Traditional OEMs are all in the little leagues of data collection compared to Tesla.
I had a Hertz rental setup through my insurance company due to an accident. I had to have the insurance company extend the rental through Hertz 2 or 3 times. This is the same scenario that was getting Hertz cars flagged as stolen and the renters arrested. To the best of my knowledge, the extensions were completed…
This new $400 tax wont slow down EV adoption in Texas and they know it. They probably studied different amounts to find one with least impact on EV purchases while having the highest return. It’s B.S.. Pure vengeful B.S. with a side of money grab.
