This is why the design that Subaru and other automakers came up with is so genius. The windshield has defrosters built in at the exact spot where the wipers sit, so they won’t get frozen to the windshield. Even our 2011 Forester has it and I know other luxury/European cars have had it for a while too.

If you notice too, the back and passenger side window is smashed out so the front loader idea sounds very possible...
