That was the whole purpose of an expanded “universe”. To tell background stories that people wanted to hear through world building. It’s 30+ years of fiction down the drain, and some of those stories don’t even affect the movies.

I like to look at these creative and productive wastes of time as gateways. This person may develop something really cool in the future for a greater good, but for now they’re developing their skills and learning about themselves.

Comments like this are always cool, however there comes a point where I wonder if these huge time sinks with little return could be better spent helping humanity progress. Or something.
