Now?
Perhaps I should read the whole paper, but I wonder how much the tenets of evolutionary theory was applied to formation of societies. I am reminded of survival of the fittest when thinking of the varied success of egalitarian vs hierarchical societies.
Jamie from Mythbusters what in the French Foreign Legion. He could kill Penn and Teller with his left thumb. Look it up!
I said something similar just now, agreeing with Promethean. If I'd have read your post I'd have just refrained, since I said almost the same thing. I like where your head's at. ;)
I think they probably could have taken any fruit, veggie or tuber and replaced the subjects' usual (and highly probable) more fatty or sugary daily foods with that and still have achieved very similar results. Basically, Promethan, I agree. Seems pretty straight-forward. Thoughts, other io9-ers?
That's a lot of info, Purple Dave, thanks. I hadn't really consisdered the repeated security improvements nor the ease of renting a car...touché salesman. Cheers.
I was fortunate in undergrad studies to stumble across a course called "Prosthetic Gods" which was aimed at examining the phenomenon of human enhancement from the lens of ethics. This course led me to a bio-ethics course which in turn led me to my major, a newly formed track of study at Butler University called STS…
It's strange to see so many changes centered on street-level security threats since 9/11 was an airborne attack. I think these are great measures but it just seems a little off that so many changes being made make no mention of limiting/minimizing another air-to-surface attack. On the other hand, I do recognize that…
Tell me about Swamp Thing! Please? I read that as a kid and would love to be impressed by the reboot. Perhaps I should just pick up a copy and not be lazy. All right, I just gave myself the response you probably would have. Thanks for the tip!
Two things: I LOVE Jeff Lemire and that is reason enough to dive into Animal Man. Also, who else read the three "Scary Stories" volumes and was forever scarred by the illustrations? In spite of the nightmares I recieved from those books' artwork, they remain a huge impact on my interest in surrealism and the…
Ahem...as opposed to off of land into the sea.
I think it's officially weird fiction as opposed to any horror, unless you'd include cosmic horror. We are insignificant! We are nothing! Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
YEEEEEEEEEEES!
I think the point was that the computer programs downloaded into his brain giving him kung fu skills and the like were the aforementiond brainwashing, not the pill business. But I agree with your take on that side of things.
And is she just writing this essay now because....? Didn't the first installment come out 15 years ago? OOH WAIT! She has HBO.
I believe the ITS terrorists are thus obligated to reply, "Touché, salesman." Nicely done.
I think good analogies are really underrated. You just made me feel what those poor kids are feeling about their old Christmas decor and their father's futile efforts to do more than what meant the most. And I realized that it's that same feeling that comes with the painful transistion from the original SW trilogy…
meh. ditto. sigh*
Agreed, Dr. E L. I read the articles on this site, watch the videos, follow the links, and most of all I enjoy the comments and opinions left by the users. Communities like this are keeping my sense of wonder and awe alive where NASA should still be doing so. I hope one day we can realize as a culture the real…
My thoughts exactly.
