And in the late ‘70s / early ‘80s we had a bit of a two tone revival

I like making my own pasta from scratch. I like making my own sauce, but sometimes I like it with some parm, or a little pesto if I don’t feel like cooking. Ranch probably wouldn’t be my first choice, but really, it’s your mouth, and what you put in it is nobody’s business but your own.

I’m increasingly of the opinion that “It lacks soul” is really code for “Sure, everything works better, but I just don’t want to admit I’m wrong.”

Star Wars was Flash Gordon mixed in with The Hidden Fortress. Star Trek was every pulp science fiction story from the ‘50s with a few WW films and Westerns blended in. Nobody creates in a vacuum, and “original” just means their ignorant of the source material.

Considering how utterly toxic some movie franchise fandoms have become, I’m kind of enjoying the quiet.

Right there is probablya big part of why I liked Avatar so much. That’s the sort of sci fi I devoured during my formative years. Lots of Clarke, Heinlein, Niven and Pournelle,  washed down with a chaser of Dragon’s Dream art books. Cameron was singing the song of my people.

Of course, by that standard, Gone With the Wind is probably still the reigning champion. There’s no doubt that there’s a large amount of baloney involved. It’s really about being able to stick “We’re Number One!” on the their ads.

Basically, all that space between the hatch and the bottom of the ship?  That’s where the fuel goes.

Herge swiped the title and the ship design from an American movie, so it all comes around.

Granted, all the members of the Commonwealth are autonomous now, and Britainn holds no real power over them.  There’s nothing stopping a nation from leaving if they choose, and members have.

That’s pretty much what you did in WW2, and it was to fight a nation that is also a member of NATO, an organization which incidentally you created to help defend against a nation that was one of your allies in that conflict. People change, nations change, and the relationships between them change. Get over it.

The body doesn’t necessarily have to be sheet metal. Carved wood was the way to go when it came to building horse drawn carriages, and in the first decade of the 20th century, Pierce Arrow was making bodies out of cast aluminum, and 10 yeas later, Bricoe was producing cars like this, with bodies made of papier mache.

There used to be a kind of illustration board called Duo-Shade, where you painted a developer on it to bring out the desired patterns. It was as close as you could get in real life to that cartoon paint.

If you want to talk about Porsche designed Mercedes-Benzes, you can go back even further to the SSK.

The purple with the white interior screams ‘50s vintage lead sled, and I’m not sure that’s such a bad thing.

A good point.  Musk could still pay more taxes, and still have plenty left to pursue his projects.

The thing about technology is the you can use it for more than one thing. The technology for this network we’re all exchanging ideas over was originally developed in the quest to find more effective ways to turn each other into radioactive ash.

In order to make a profit, he’s going to have to sell it to people, so yes.

Yes, this is why the arguments equating electric cars with socialism are so painfully stupid.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a generic you, rather than you in particular.
