You ignore the fact that a sizeable portion of the population believes in an afterlife, which would contribute to the lower-than-expected numbers of people who fear death.
Each person gets to make the decision if they should read it or not. Obviously, based on the books and movies unprecented success the public doesn’t have the same concerns as you.
