I think apart from medical, separate travel insurance for flights/hotels etc. isn’t worth it for most people on a purely financial basis. That said, your credit card probably includes “free” travel insurance that’ll cover most of your needs.
Might depend on the facts behind it. If the backers embezzled the money, then the money is still there to be clawed back. If the money was really dumped into research and the company and just failed, then yea it’s gone (and might be no claim too).
