I hate to be one of those "don't use it" people... but after switching to the Mac 2 1/2 years ago and recently using Vista for 2 months I can honestly say that when the solution to fixing all of Vista's annoyances is to turn off all the new features that already work flawlessly on the Mac, and with far less memory…
I should mention the main reason I won't use Opera is because 1Password doesn't support it (Opera is not open to very much 3rd party customization).
PPS. A big annoyance with Opera was its lack of support for many, many websites. I don't know if their 'quirks' mode has gotten any better over the years, but it was a real pain. The attitude of many of the Opera faithful was that its up to developers to code to standards, which is... understandable, but not practical…
PS. Over the years I had never found a satisfactory way to block ads on Opera. I believe there is per-ad blocking now, but yeah, who wants to do that over and over. I think for awhile I used a proxy but that's kind of tedious too.
@onemoreday: Same here. IE -> Opera -> Firefox. I just can't wrap my brain around Opera's... unusual... interface. Which is too bad because I *really* like the mail client in Opera; it was better for me than anything on Windows at the time. But now I am on Mac and Mail is almost as good.
They needed a study to discover that siestas are good for you? In go-go America it's unseemly to nap during the day, but step outside our borders and it's quite common in other countries. I wish I had somewhere to nap after lunch so I don't have to feel like a zombie for several hours after lunch.
I'm sure this would have come in handy during the last 4 days of 100 degree weather here in NYC. Oh, wait a minute. NOT.
Ads are pretty much always pop ups that anyone can easily block anyway. What they're talking about here is introductory fluff that adds absolutely zero content to a site.
(Ignoring the trolls)
@Cornflower: "What will it take to force our north american politicians to invest in better public transportation?"
I live 1/20 of a mile from the subway that takes me directly to work :P (Brooklyn, NY) - I have never owned a car.
@mDuo13: Going from 2 to 3 has been a LOT less painful than I remember going from 1 to 2 was, mostly because of the automated update checks. Plus it feels like the betas for 3 were just much better products than the betas for 2 (or 1!).
I wonder if they'll fix the menu bar on XP - black on dark blue is not easy to read. Been that way since the first betas.
> If it works for you, who cares if it's free or not?
These are just some common-sense ideas to get people thinking. Everyone's priorities are different - myself, I subscribe to TV but would not consider subscribing to movie or music rentals. The TV already gives me a wide enough choice of movies on demand for my needs, and there are plenty of free places to discover new…
My guess is "worse". Why would I want my search results to resemble the contents of my Junk mail folder? Dumb idea.
It's still not clear from the article what the hell they mean by "turn off at the source". Does that mean unplug it? And of course the link in the article doesn't lead anywhere useful. Sigh - how useless.
@ficcionista: Look beyond the closed circle of your friends - I'm sure the vast majority of your countrymen are not building their own either.
I think I have one dead pixel :(
