Lots of science (not necessarily this one) doesn't have a specific application in mind. The science is done to "simply" gain knowledge. That is, we want to know how/why fish suddenly (or not so suddenly) sprouted legs starting the colonization of the land.

As with anything that involves people all those things can be discussed but given time many of those views and ideas can change. Real relationships evolve and change and it's good to be aware of it. Yes, NYC is not like any other place. When I lived there, I saw a lot of famous people that did their own shopping who can't go out of the house in California without being mobbed. When I first moved there I kept track of the famous people but it got tedious because so many were out and about just living their lives.

"Game Center" wasn't trademarked but the game centre icon used by apple and isn't at all controversial anymore than the apple icon with the bite out of it is trademarked by Apple. I don't know of anyone else that uses that particular icon for anything.
