The post, like the show upon which it was reporting, was also abruptly cancelled before the writers could bring it to a satisfying conclusion.

I don’t think you get lucky 25 times in a row. I mean, Feige had a lot of help and others deserve to share the credit, but I think his props for being the ultimate driving force behind the MCU are well-deserved. And at this point, i don’t think one actual flop will bring his world crashing down. He’s probably one of…
Ragnarok is disarming in that Hemsworth injects more of his already-present humor (verbal and physical) into his Thor, tricking some audience members into seeing the character as a buffoon, when in reality the Thor we see in that movie is probably the most competent he’s been portrayed. He’s intelligent (mastering…
Presumably the Flash movie is based on Flashpoint (I think it was actually titled that at one point) just for this purpose. It even allows them to “de-cast” Ezra Miller by having the Flash change his own history. I doubt we’ll get the full details of what the time travel reboot means until the Flash movie actually…
I’m pretty steeped in Marvel lore so I might not be the best judge, but I don’t think this is generally true. The Bond movies often had a lot of lore that carried over from movie to movie (Moneypenny, Q, what 007 means), but you could pick up most of it from context or general cultural knowledge even if you haven’t…
Chadwick was a rising star, with a specific niche for playing iconic Black figures, both fictional (T’Challa) and real (Jackie Robinson, James Brown, Thurgood Marshall). And I watched at least two movies - 21 Bridges and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom - specifically because he was starring in them.
What I like about this list is that if you take the top 7 movies:
This. I tried to articulate this upthread. If she has to confront him in order for him to come clean, it’s already too late: he’ll be either the guy who cheats on her or the guy who lies to her, and either way the relationship is broken.
I was almost mad at this plot because it ran the risk of falling into a cliche lack of communication, but I think Mike White actually pulled it off. Ethan didn’t sleep with the other woman but did get high and kiss her - it’s not enough that he can’t tell Harper but just enough that he doesn’t want to. And Harper is…
The original Black Panther was also something of a cultural phenomenon that lent itself to repeat viewing (I think I saw it twice within two weeks, and I almost never see movies in theaters multiple times). By contrast, Wakanda Forever is obviously pretty heavy for a superhero film; I think a lot of people wanted to…
I just discovered this performance earlier this year. Went into watching the video completely cold. I was really thinking “why did they even include Prince in this?” as he stayed off to the side and seemed barely engaged. Then he stepped out. I can’t remember the last time I was riveted by an instrumental performance…
I am not there yet but may get to this point one day (I’ve only seen about half of the Phase 4 stuff after having watched every Phase 1-3 movie multiple times). And I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I actually think Disney/Marvel are purposefully moving in the direction where, like with the comics, each fan just picks…
My guess for Ant-Man is one of two things:
I think Phase 4 was a step down from Phases 2-3 (but still very enjoyable to me), but not for the reasons stated here. I think Marvel has simply spread itself a bit thin and the stories have suffered a little bit for it.
My guess is you answered your own question - I would assume she’d have dropped Dark Phoenix (and probably one or two other X-Men movies) if she could, along with Passengers (which she’s explicitly regretted) and Red Sparrow (the movie that’s not Black Widow and not Salt). Maybe mother! as well, which was so bizarre…
I like this theory. It would make sense that the Dateline story about the husbands who kill their wives on vacation would be foreshadowing. I was just saying to someone else that Greg’s marriage to Tanya may be a long con (since his nice guy personality and terminal illness seem to have both gone away since they got…
I thought he was dying as well and was thus surprised to see him back as her husband and seemingly in good health. Maybe she paid for him to get some really good healthcare, or maybe (since he seems so different than he did last season) it was all a long con to get her to marry him.
I think you’re right that it’s an industry-wide problem, but it sounds like Marvel/Disney is in the best position to change things if they wanted to given how much of the market they seem to control. And I say this as a huge fan of the movies.
This is the best review/discussion of Blade I’ve ever read. Bravo.
(And thanks for pointing out a very important fact that I often reverse in my mind: this came out before the Matrix, hitting some of the same beats and aesthetics that made that movie so popular and culturally significant).
Yeah as much as Waititi made a great movie (and he did), he didn’t infuse the comedy into Thor. It was already there, in the writing and in Hemsworth’s fantastic and underrated comic chops. It was dialed up and sharpened, sure, but the building blocks were already there.
