It’s Jezebel, it’s internet yellow journalism.

You seem very miserable, like life is not working out for you.
You probably imagined it. Just as you imagine all the comments in Jezebel whenever they have an article about a hot guy and are almost all objectifying or those articles asking the readers if they will sleep with the guy from the article or not.
Except that is merely a detail buried beneath the “trans-woman killed” headline. I agree that it’s gross and depressing when authorities don’t recognize someone’s chosen and preferred identity. But that is not what this article was displayed as being about.
Exactly! If that WAS the intent of the story, talk about burying the lead. I fully expect this site to loudly applaud the pinnacle of ethical reporting next time Fox notes “Muslim burglar gets 10 years for theft”. Retweets for everyone!
Trans Pride Initiative is playing fast and loose with the facts, yes?
Reminds me of a post a week ago or so, where a young black female inmate died while in detention. No indication of foul play but it was “eerily similar to the Sandra Bland case”. Actually it wasn’t at all, and it’s an insult to Sandra Bland to claim it was just because she was black (she died of natural causes). Same…
America has a huge crime rate, criminals carry guns routinely, the police risk their lives daily for everyone else, yet near-constantly get a bad rap.
Look. I’m out, I’m drinking, I’m going to stop kinjaing and hope that this is all a misunderstanding having to do with typos in my original gobbledegook post. I don’t think it’s just as likely that there was underlying tension due to a political dispute. I think equating the likelihood that this was in part due to…
You’re right, it’s just as probable that the gun owner who shot and killed another human being for suspected theft was a Bernie Sanders supporter.
My impression is that most of the trans people on last year’s tally were killed for personal reasons rather than because they were trans. They made the list anyways.
It’s a point you and some others have made that I think is a good one.
Very sad for Monica’s family and friends, but I don’t understand the significance of gender identity. How many women have been murdered so far in 2016?
If that were the primary issue, why wasn’t the headline, “Cops and Austin Paper Misuse Pronouns” and why was the lede buried?
It sounds like Loera may have been a thief. If she was and this led to her getting shot, it is a bit hard to feel sorry for her.
So why the emphasis on transpeople, if the murders aren’t related directly to their status as a transperson?
I wonder about this all the time, the US has an astronomical murder rate, despite trans women being an infinitesimally small percentage of that population they will also, on occasion, be murdered - sometimes due to their transness and sometimes due to a number of often related but sometimes unrelated variables.…
I don’t understand this.
Though it sounds like the motive was not due to identity. Jmo
Maybe I’m just young and immature, but I super do this about guys. I have a lot of specific things I would like in a partner and will totally analyze potentials that way. And I can definitely get on a roll talking to my friends and kidding around about my specificities.
