It’s all about the 2:20ish mark, where Bryan turns back to face the screen, there’s an abrupt jolt in the footage, his shirt gets a bit darker, and he stays stock still for the remaining two minutes of the video, seemingly petrified by the image of himself gyrating and gurning. I wonder what happened.

He’s matured into the bastard child of Jack Nicholson and Gary Busey.
He’s no match for Squeegee Man, though.

If you wanted to make a case for rock music’s greatest year [...] you could do worse than to bang on and on about 1966.
Nah mate, he was literally lit up by flames. ‘Lighten up’ (be more cheerful) and ‘light up’ (set on fire) mean different things. (Granted, though, instructing someone who died violently to ‘lighten up’ does perhaps seem tone-deaf.)
Yikes, that ‘sung’/‘sang’ thing has fortunately not crossed my radar so far, but it’s already making me itch with irritation. I fear I’m going to see it everywhere now! :/
The past tense of ‘lead’ is ‘led’, goddammit.
Minor correction: it seems that he was actually 88, not 87.
I was totally ‘meh’ about ‘Django Jane’ when it was a single, but for some reason it seems to really come alive and become an album highlight when it follows ‘Screwed’. tbh all three singles become more than the sum of their parts in sequence on the album, imho
Absolutely, their best song imho.
I was about to post a comment asking where the hell all of the old Undercovers had gone, because I’m sad to say that the ‘Surrender’ cover was my only experience of Frightened Rabbit. Thanks for sharing this.
‘Noxious’, ‘anxious’, ‘sexual’... (ok, that last one is also sometimes pronounced with the common ‘cks’ x-sound, but you get my point, I hope)
I think they made a bigger mistake replacing him with a character that was even more badly written. (Or were you actually referring to Diamondback? Because I thought that Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth was one of the main pros of the series.)
If you can’t be bothered to watch the full video but want to get to the heart of what this asshat is saying, 5:27–5:30 is the ‘thesis moment’.
