Black comedy, yeah, definitely. Surprisingly great science-fantasy premises for what it is, some really heavy and emotional character development of the "ha ha, only tragic" variety, but full of one-liners and absurd situations. (They befriend Hepatitis C in one episode, fercrissake. :) )

You're not at all wrong. I thought the same thing, and I would probably have shaken my head all through whatever executive meeting got this green-lit, 'cause I'm 100% sure it involved pitching it as "Rick and Morty on $PSYCHEDELIC_DRUG."

What did you think of S2? S1 was one of my favorite TV comedies of the last decade, but the 80s riff just made me feel like they were out of their element.

I think proving a piece of media is not funny requires at LEAST a minimum ten-word commitment.

Or, you know, inborn neurochemical imbalances exacerbated by the stress of constant public pressure. But that's not nearly as gratifying to believe, is it?

Yeah, but there's one important distinction between those two cases: if it is, then you're really being a dick.

Thanks so much for your incisive commentary. I'm delighted as always that this vital cultural issue is going to be determined by hot takes and hat choices.

It's OK, honey, we know you prefer art that "looks like stuff."

You remind me of the people who panned Room 237 because they were convinced the directors believed every single word of it — or people who actually still think wrestling fans believe everything that happens in the ring is real. If you think we're not aware Tommy Wiseau is a charlatan and an incompetent, you've totally

"Stole" sounds more than a little hyperbolic to me. It's not NOTLD it's anything remotely resembling a plot-for-plot, character-for-character cribbing of the inspirational material. Do you go into conniptions over Star Wars "stealing" the plot of The Hidden Fortress, too?

You mean, one-word comments that express an opinion but don't say anything interesting about where it comes from?

Yeah, it's "Wine and Wafer Crunch" from Sanctimony Farms. I wouldn't recommend it; it tends to transubstantiate in the freezer.

You don't have to leave a comment for not caring.

Criticism != whining.
